do swing tops seal tighter somehow ?
sometimes bottle in bottles with swing tops but mostly with crown caps.
the swing tops seem fizzier , it could just be chance or perception on my behalf ,
swing tops vs crown caps
Re: swing tops vs crown caps
Got a case of swing tops which I have used for about 10 years.
Have replace the rubber washers about twice during that period.
The seal is very tight and the washers will get deformed which eventually weakens the seal.
Bottling is faster with swing tops!

Crown caps with standard bottles are of course cheaper. And if like me you salvage your bottles for free, it works out about 1p a throw. I can't see that the seals would not be as good, otherwise the beer would be flat. You can't have just some gas escaping.filet o fish wrote:just need to chase the empties back from friends when you use them.

Re: swing tops vs crown caps
perhaps with the flip top bottle its easy just to seal as soon as its filled and your not letting as much disolved co2 escape as you would filling all 40 bottles and then capping them one by one??
no i dont think so either
buying empty flip top bottles is expensive, while encouraging your pals to buy grolsh in flip top bottles from tesco makes sense..

I now have nearly 600 bottles.........caps are good for me, i clamp then move the bottle 90 degrees then clamp again to make sure to seal is complete....
I've only had say 3 issues in 25 kits and 6 AG brews and bottling......Unless you can get swing tops free.....they are tremendously over priced for what they are....
