Doughing in your mash

Post by sheffstevie » Tue Sep 25, 2012 11:59 pm

Hi

I have been using one of these for years now (stainless steel version) for ensuring I get a good mix of strike liquor and malt in the mash tun. I find it works much better than a spoon. I've read a few posts where widgets attached to slow revolving electric drills are used but that seems like a bit of overkill to me - or maybe I cant be arsed to buy one and if I used my Black and Decker from the mains I'd have grist up to the dado rail! Anyone else tried one?

I just use a large hand whisk as I pour the grain in the tun, takes seconds and no effort.

I use a cheap, large stainless slotted spoon from Wilkos :)

Can anyone explain why foaming whilst stirring is to be avoided?
