How much priming sugar for 10L of RIS

Post by DC » Fri Nov 02, 2012 5:24 pm

Hi all, I have a Russian Imperial Stout nearly ready to bottle and was wondering how much priming sugar to use in a 10L batch? I will be bottling in around 36 x 300ml Bud bottles! I normally use around 100g for a 23L batch when bottling, but I don't want to over carbonate my RIS.

Isn't RIS meant to be highly carbonated like a Belgium?

About 5g per litre should be about right to give it enough carbonation - there will probably be a fair bit of residual sugar in a RIS given the high gravity - you might even get away with about 40g for the whole 10L.

Hi Jymbo, Cheers for the reply regarding the amount of sugar, like you said around 40 or 50g should be enough,
