I love my CFC. I much prefer it over my old IC since I can have a almost completely closed system. And Ive found that a good rinse before and after use keeps it clean. There is always going to be moisture inside, but rinsing before use should remove that, with a good cleaning product every now and again. Then I recirculate through at the last 15 mins of boil to sanitise before cooling. Never had any problems thus far!
Obviously though, with an IC you dont need to worry too much about a fine filter, and you also dont need a pump, whereas my CFC has to used with a pump, and I have to make sure no bits of hop get through at all.

Re: Best use of wort cooler coil
Mine's a copper coil through which I run cold water from the outside tap.
Like others have said, the coil goes into the boiling wort about 10 minutes before the end of the boil to kill off any nasties.
By stirring the wort while the water's running through the coil it drops from boiling to pitching temperature in about 10 minutes. I then leave it for about 30 minutes for the hops and trub to settle before running the wort from the boiler into the FV.
Works for me!
