DME or Brewing Sugar

Post by sweatysock » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:52 pm

I now brew AG so only use brewing sugar for priming my barrel. Does anyone have experience of using DME instead and are there any advantage to doing this? Does it taste better?

For the amount you're using the taste difference will be imperceptible. DME has a lower fermentability than sugar so gram-for-gram you'll get a bit less carbonation. Some mistakenly interpret this lower carbonation as some magical "smoothness" when in fact you could get exactly the same result with slightly less sugar. Use whichever makes you happy.
