If you dont fancy using silicone you can use a brass nut. It holds the cask filter very well.guypettigrew wrote:Working out how to use the cask hop filter was good fun!
I think they're designed to be used with flanged nuts to be screwed onto the back of the cask taps. I don't have any flanged nuts, so I had a number of tries at making them work. In homebrew we're very good at finding solutions!
In the end I took a fixing nut from a regular drum tap, ran a ring of silicone sealant round it and gently pushed the hop filter into it.
After 24 hours the silicone was set firm and holds the filter in place. This can then be screwed onto the back of the tap on the King kegs.
The filter could have been siliconed directly onto the back of the tap, but then it couldn't have been removed.
