I used liquid yeast and an aeration stone for the first time, I was warned to use a blow off tube with this yeast (wyeast kolsch).....I didn't as I just use clingfilm as a lid.
Well, it's pretty messy!
What now? Do I clean it up and replace my cling film. The krauzen is still right at the top of the fermenter and still dribbling out the sides. Do i leave it until it dies down a bit and clean it up....or just leave it entirely.
I don't like opening my fv due to infection risk but then yeast is kinda everywhere !

Run away and hide
and pray that the other half doesn't find out!

Wait until it has calmed down, then clean up and replace the clingfilm. Nothing bad should happen to your beer in the meantime. if it was summer I would advise to be wary of fruit flies getting in, but it's November.
Many brewers and many breweries ferment without any form of lid without any issue so you should be ok.
Never used an airstone myself, do you just use it to aerate for a bit or do you leave it running after you pitch the yeast?

Re: Yeast explosion
I pitch the yeast then run it for 30 mins or until there isn't any more space for the foam.
Re: Yeast explosion
I wonder if the Whitelabs strain acts the same because I'm going to be using that for my next brew.

Not when I've used it... was a fairly standard ferment. I didn't aerate it with a stone though - just let it fall from 70cm through a tube.
