pH strips

Post by Cozzyb » Sat May 31, 2014 12:29 pm

Hi all,
Anyone recommend any good pH strips? Preferably ones that cover the 5-6 range well so its more accurate then the usual ph strips.
Ebay/amazon would be best so i can buy on their own without needing other stuff for delivery charge i.e. homebrew shop.

I've exclusively used strips for measuring pH for many years. Those, not cheap but fit for purpose, are quite old now giving cause to doubt their accuracy, but I can't find a suitable source of the originals nor a replacement.
You might care to read the information found here and here. My originals were branded BDH, so as suggested by the latter were the same as ColorpHast.
Those I've tried recently all failed when used in wort due to discolouration, but were frequently suitable in clear liquids.

Not sure what pH you need to measure, but I was unable to get the pH of my mash correct from taking pH measurements, that was only achieved after measuring and controlling the alkalinity in my mash water. Then it wasn't so necessary to bother measuring pH.
Good luck.
