batch sparging

Post by johnluc » Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:16 pm

Hi all, been ag for nearly 5 years now and up until about 6 brews ago everything was great, then a series of stuck ferments, tried everything, still sticking at 1020- 1016, as i batch sparge can anyone see if i'm doing anything wrong, eg. the calculator says i need a total of 38.1 ltrs of water with a mash vol of 9.7 ltr top up 12.6ltr and water for batch 2 of 16.5ltr. so i heat my water and add 9.7 ltr and mash at 66c for 90 mins, then add 12.6ltr top up at about 85c to get a mash of 75c and leave for 15 mins, run off, add my final 16.5ltr and leave for another 15 mins at 75c and run off. i'm sure this is how i've always done it or i could be having a serious senior crisis.

Volumes look wrong. I'd be mashing with 12.6L (2.5:1 ratio?) and topping up for sparge 1 with 9.7L.

Have you tried another thermometer?
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget
