I could then set it to anything and it would cool it without its internal thermostat taking over. For a heater in winter - I use a 40W light bulb - does the job no probs - much cheaper than a proper heater.
The next question is where to put the STC probe...!
Hiya mate, got it down to about 2c in the end so decent enough. Just got my stc1000 to setup and going to order a heater too. I'm just gonna tape the probe to the fv and cover with some thermal wrap. Also, should the stc1000 come with a mains lead?

Nope they don't... An option is to cut your fridge one in the right place basically putting the stc in the middle...

Yep - taping to FV and insulating is what I do. The STC comes just by itself. I plan to install it somehow into my fridge rather than have it as a separate unit at some stage - it's on the list......!

No bother, got some cable so can make one. Just wanted to check I hadn't been ripped off or anything

STC1000 up and running. What settings do you all use? Set the differential to 1c and timer to three minutes. Not using a heat source at the minute

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Halogen-Desk-Li ... =desk+lamp - thinking about something like this to heat the fridge during winter? Seen a video online where a guy uses something like this and puts a dark t-shirt over the FV to stop the light getting to it

I am finding 0.5 degC works well as a differential. Timer left as default (3 mins I think). I think this is just a compressor delay in case your mains power goes down and back up quickly while the fridge is running... perhaps your fridge will have one built in anyway in which case you could zero the STC's one safely, not sure.

Why spend 8 pounds on a bodge when you can get a tube heater for 13?

I find 0.5 differential works well.

You MUST tape the probe to the FV for it to control correctly.
