Punk IPA in a Nelson Sauvin drought

Post by daf » Fri Oct 24, 2014 9:51 am

It seems that we won't be getting any more Nelson Sauvin until next year, according to my LHBS. I was intending to do a Punk IPA clone, using:

Chinook
Ahtanum
Columbus
Simcoe
Cascade
Nelson Sauvin

However - no Nelson Sauvin....

...I'm sure it won't make a blinc bit of difference with all the others in there - but what would happen if I chucked a bottle of sauvignon blanc into the fermenting vessel - would it give me those winey notes of would it FUBAR the whole thing?

Or you use an older Punk IPA recipe which doesn't use Nelson Sauvin

I might just go with what I've got to be honest. Last hop bomb I made (Columbus, Simcoe, Cascade and Apollo) went down a treat.

Still wondering about bunging in a bottle of vin plonk - anyone tried it?

I'll tell you what, here's an experiment for you. Get a hoppy beer and cut it with some wine. That will give you an idea of how good that works. I suspect it won't.
