My shiny 7 gallon Chronical fermenter arrived a short while ago. Lovely thing to look at!
It's now got a 1.053 ale in it. It was brewed on Friday and by yesterday, Saturday, was bubbling merrily through the airlock. Now it's gone mad. Yeast flowing through the airlock!
I unclipped the lid and saw the entire domed top was full of krausen. I've now cleaned and re-sanitized the lid and replaced it on the Chronical, but without an airlock. Waiting to see if the yeast climbs up the lid and out of the hole on the top.
How do those of you with Chronicals deal with this? Do you leave the lid off once there are clear signs fermentation has begun? Do you delay putting the airlock in until the initial fermentation has died down? Do you not clip the lid on until a few days have gone by?
The main worry I have with this, though, is it means the temperature control option which is due out soon won't be any use as it has a flat lid as part of the kit. Even less room for the Krausen.
All thoughts and tips gratefully received.
Thanks.
Guy

Re: Using a Chronical fermenter
Im confused. It sounds like you've over filled it? Did you leave headspace.
The first solution is to fit a blow off tube.
I'd put that airlock back on Asap otherwise.

It's got 5 gallons in it, which equates to 6 US gallons.
Not too fussed about not having the airlock on. It must have a nice protective blanket of CO2 over the beer.

Chronical Fermenter ? Sounds like something that brings lagering period down to 0.5 seconds via the use of gravitational anomalies... ?

And the outlandish use of temporally enriched quarkons, of course!Pinto wrote:Chronical Fermenter ? Sounds like something that brings lagering period down to 0.5 seconds via the use of gravitational anomalies... ?

This is my kind of brewing. I want a Chronical Fermentor and loads of temporally enriched quarkons (with a few anomalies).Pinto wrote:Chronical Fermenter ? Sounds like something that brings lagering period down to 0.5 seconds via the use of gravitational anomalies... ?
