Think I went wrong but got lucky

Post by petehoar » Sat Dec 27, 2014 2:39 pm

I'm only new to this and I've been keeping to the same recipe's easier that way , only to discover I've been doing it all wrong all this time oopppps.
I use flaked maize in my brews and have just read it goes in the mash and not as I've been doing in the boil (my bad) but to be fair I get a really clear beer and a good taste good head and a beer that on average comes out at 5.8.
So my question is, is there a right or wrong way to use maize ......
Thank you all and a happy new year to you all.

I'm not sure about maize, but some adjuncts can be boiler or mash tun. It's more convenient to put them in the mash tun so that's the standard practice.

Adjuncts such as sugar, honey, treacle etc. can go in the boil. Any grain goes in the mash. You want to mash with the malts so that the diastatic enzymes convert the starches in the unmalted grains.
