FGnot coming down to expected level

Post by Bazz » Mon Feb 23, 2015 2:50 pm

Hi, i did my second all grain brew just over a week a go using BIAB and it went really well, however i checked the gravity 3 days a go and it had gone down from 1.042 to 1.014, so far so good, i checked it again today and it hasn't moved down any more at all. The recipe was one of my own creating and i used the Brewmate software to plan, the software suggested it should have a FG of 1.011.

Should i give it a few more days to be sure or crash cool it now ready for kegging??

Thanks.

Which yeast did you use?
Best wishes

Well, the calculated final gravity for HB recipes is really just an approximation - as long as you get reasonably close you're fine (plus home brewing hydrometers can have errors as well).

However, I reckon it will probably keep on creeping down, so I would leave it another few days at least (I always leave my brews in the primary for a couple of weeks for that reason, plus it allows them to clear down a bit more).

Yes, 2 weeks, often 3 in my case.
Best wishes
