Cheers all. Picked up some tape from wilko's this lunchtime so here's hoping..that & I've realised birthday list will now consist of lots of large stainless steel brew kit!

One of these is what you need for a secure fit that will not come off.

Really? Thought that wouldn't be compatible with push fit strainer?

Use the compression nut and olive, I have used a hop and grape copper pipe filter on a plastic tap like this for years.

Hi again. Hmm, I'm clearly doing something wrong here....have sawn off the end of the copper filter. Nut & olive go on fine but when I screw the nut on to the coupling I can just pull the filter out without any force. Also, the coupling to fit the tap is *way* too big - the threads are nowhere near each other...apologies in advance if I'm being thick.

Oh hang on, is it just the nut & olive I use? That would make more sense I guess but it still doesn't seem like there's enough thread exposed on the tap to fasten it on to?

You only need a few mm.
If you tighten the nut as much as you can with a monkey wrench it should hold. It does not need to be super tight.
