Pumping beer from fermenter?
Re: Pumping beer from fermenter?
I use co2 to move my beer out of the fermenter into kegs and it works great. I use a plastic carboy with a long racking cane, a cap with 2 outlets and very little pressure. There is a small hole in the carboy cap which acts as pressure relief and the risk of introducing oxygen is greatly reduced

I have to do this with my conicals because the run off valve is a lot lower than the cornie opening, problem is you have to be able to pressurise the fermentor, a lot of plastic ones don't give you the seal you need. The scissor lift is a great idea and if you had a larder fridge that would accommodate one it would be an excellent solution.oliver tate wrote:I use co2 to move my beer out of the fermenter into kegs and it works great.

a sanitise, sterile pump is fine, its how virtually all breweries move their beer to conditioning tanks, prime the pump and line before turning on obviously though!
Re: Pumping beer from fermenter?
I have been pumping mine from conical for sometime, its fine no problem.
I pump as its quicker than using co2 pressure, and saves me humping a co2 bottle around. I use a 12V solar pump,
on lower voltage and pump into kegs.

Did you have problems using the higher voltage, prompting you to lower it, or were you just being careful?nigelsch wrote:I use a 12V solar pump, on lower voltage and pump into kegs.
