Crossmyloof retirement

I've just been reading some of the reviews of CML's yeast on JBK and thinking that I might give them a go rather than splashing out on the expensive liquid yeasts from other suppliers. So I popped over to their website, but noticed that they are retiring:

"And now it's suddenly October 2024 and a wee announcement about what’s happening here at Crossmyloof Brew in the coming months. After a decade of selling hops and yeast, we’ll be taking early retirement by the end of 2024 to do a bit more brewing and the like, meaning the website will be closing by the end of the year. We may still have a presence on Amazon for a few months after the website closes, allowing Amazon to do the order fulfilment, but that’s still to be confirmed.
Although selling the business is not our priority, if anyone fancies taking over Crossmyloof Brew, processing 2 tonnes of hops, countless yeast packs, and hundreds of grain recipe kits for over 11,000 orders annually, let us know! In the meantime, it’s business as usual until the timer on the website reaches zero and it goes without saying we thank you all for the support you’ve shown over the last 10 years. It truly has been a pleasure, and you guys and girls have made this whole online brewing supplies malarkey a delight."

I don't buy from them regularly, but when I have its always been a good experience.

Obviously I wish them well in their well-deserved retirement, but that's my primary hop source gone now...

I've struggled to purchase quality hops in the last few years, and theirs were head and shoulders above just about everyone else. Throw in very good prices and they were unbeatable.

Only place I've found that came close was Malt Miller, but their 100g bags are at least £1.00 more expensive and that's before taking into account that CML prices include postage. I'm still not convinced they're as good quality either...

That's what I did last week.

I still have a couple in the fridge from my previous "bulk purchase" and the brew I bottled this afternoon got to expected FG using CML yeast that was well after the BB date.

Have been my go to supplier for yeast & hops for a long time , all good quality , very good prices and quick delivery from a great bunch of Lads . I'm keeping everything crossed that someone locally will buy what must be a very busy viable business to invest in .
Recently put in a large order of hops and yeasts ( my vacuum packer will be busy ) and will again shortly to stock up just encase .

Just spent £150 on lots of 100g yeast packs and shedload of hops.

I aspire to partial retirement from the NHS next year and that's the sort of business I'd like to run as a hobby/sideline to help me stay occupied when I fully retire. Sadly geography and time would preclude me asking for their financials as part of a takeover plan.

Prepping small packs of hops and yeast all day is going to make you want to retire early, I reckon. Not much joy in that. From the sounds of it, they offered very competitive prices by doing the work themselves and deserve early retirement. Personally, I always try to use small home-brew suppliers and avoid the big online sellers whenever possible. They always get too big for their boots.
