My dads 100% against it, but i think i'll have to gather money from somewhere and get onto this AG Lark
Thanks again guys!
Does your dad like real ale? If not try and wean him onto it. If he does, I'd suggest you make up an extract recipe (you just need a big stockpot on top of kit brewing equipment) but steep some crystal malt or something (loads of info, John Palmer's website is a good one as there's a step by step guide to doing an extract + steep recipe) and use a nice dried yeast like Danstar Nottingham. The results will be a LOT better than a kit brew, which will go some way to prove that beer brewed at home doesn't need to taste rubbish. Explain that the taste difference from kits to extract beers is less than that from extract to all grain! That should get him on board.

Fermenting: nowt (sadly). Drinking: still a few bottles of my imperial stout knocking about . . . it's rather good now

Dunno how old you are Benson but if your anything like my 19 year old you will completely ignore the "old man" and do what the hell you want anyway!

15 so im severely restricted
Although i may just save up myself, and one day when he wakes up, he'll wake up to the smell of boiling wort

My dads a brewferm ale man.
He was on about doing an extract earlier when i said about AG, he said if anything he'd want to try this first and then think about AG. Personally i just want to go to AG.

I might get him to do an extract though whilst I'm gathering FV's and kettle elements.

We need to send you a few bottles of AG beer then - so you can feed them to your Dad to convince him !

My mash tun is a 36 Coleman, I tend to brew 9 gallon which is great for filling 2 cornies or 1 corney and about 30+ bottles.
I mash with 19-20 ltr of mash liqueur and a 9 kg (max) grain bill which takes it within 2" of the top rim.
So to clarify what I'm saying.... A 36 would be O.K to brew 10 gallons @ 4% - 4.5% ABV any stronger and you would have to adjust the batch size like I do and make 9 gallons to reach 5% or more ABV brews.
The plus side of the 36 Coleman is that it's a good size to store away and easily manageable when in use.
Picky of my set-up
This is 19.5 ltr liqueur and 9kg of grist for a 9 gallon brew.
My sparger
Hope this helps

I've been trying for a fridge for ages, every time someone's beaten me to it.

Cant you make an ad for one? Apparently from what i've read that's the best way to go about it.
How long did it take for the mods to accept your add?

I've placed a few adds, fridges, freezers, boilers, cool box.... got FA.
Took a few days to be accepted, I was already a member of Yahoo so I just needed to subscribe to Barnsley freecycle.

Give them a ring and ask to speak to John (the owner). He's a sound bloke and if you ask nice I'm sure he'll oblige
