here is the plan origianally.

4340 MO
250 Crystal
80 Chocolate

28 g Northdown ( 60)
30 First gold ( 15)
20 g crystal ( 1-2)

I do have a rouge bag of pilsner mal at home too as well as some northern brewer i think and some challenger.

What do you think. if i add the extra bag of pilsner malt ( at least 500 grams i think) will i need to increase the hops too in order to make up for the dilution of IBU if I gte a good efficianect. I have no problems watering it down a little... just gives more beer!

thanks

There are various calculators here that you can use:

I use beersmith, this makes it really easy (and I've found it very accurate) to predict what gravity/volume you should get at each point in the process, you're interested in the gravity/volume before the boil.

I have just run the extra grain through beersmith.

20 l brew
Based on a 65 % efficiency and using all the grain i have 8 that would be up to a kilo of pilsner malt) i would get the following:-

4340 pale
1000 pilsner malt ( max)
250 Crystal
80 chocolate

28 g ( 7.6%) northdown for 60
30 g (6.2%) first gold for 15
20g Crystal (3.5%) for 2

This would give the following:

OG 1058
IBU 35.6

ABV:- 5.29%

It would mean that it if i get better effiency i'll end up getting more beer for the same ingredients.

the only variable here will be whether my other 500g pale arrives in time. if not then the recipe will drop 500g of pale.

thoughts appreciated.
