Hi - I have been redoing my sums and checking some of the original inputs (eg losses to the mash tun dead area etc) and am coming out with a 36.4 litres to be treated figure for a 23 litre target volume post boil. I hope that sounds about right. I have one other question which is more a water treatment question - for the purposes of the water treatment calculator is my "total water to be treated" amount the 36 litres figure (which for a porter and using Asda eden falls water produces a figure for example of 11.1 calcium chloride to be added which seems alot).
thanks again for the really helpful replies - if its anything like my last effort I will spend ages on the maths and then do something dumb like oxidise it when bottling ......
Batch sparging - confused
Re: Batch sparging - confused
Yes you treat the total volume. Calcium chloride is very difficult to dissolve in water, it will just sink to the bottom of the HLT. Generally it is recommended to split it and add proportionally to the tun as flakes mixed directly in the grain, and the rest is added to the boil.
11g is only a couple of teaspoons so not excessive.
