I am terrified
Re: I am terrified
I've not brewed much this year at all. All my time has been spent working on the house and garden. The good news is that the garden is just about done and I have managed to leave a space approx 8 ft by 7 ft free. During a chance conversation with my good lady around what would be a good use for said space she uttered the following which I never thought i would ever hear "what about that brew shed thing you have been going on about for years?"
time to get back in the game I think

You want to look after that one, she sounds like a keeper!

If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!
Re: I am terrified
Yeah but her usual line is "this house smells like a brewery" to which I reply " and your point is caller?"
Re: I am terrified
It's funny you mention about getting back in the game with the prospect of building a brew shed. Nothing inspires me to get brewing like building a new piece of kit and testing it out. My recent return has been as much to do with me having finished my kegerator as it is anything else. And since I've built a kegerator I decided I might as well build a counter pressure bottler. Of course, I picked up a new brew pot not that long ago and it needed some modifications so I needed to brew to test that out... And now I'm brewing again I figure I might as well start taking yeast samples on slants, which of course means I need some fancy yeast to culture, and I'll need to pick brews to use the yeast on....
And on and on and on...
And on and on and on...
Re: I am terrified
I think I will have almost as much fun planning the project as I will get once it's up and running. I have still to finish my full AG setup which is only partly built. I was restricted to small (10-15 litre) batches done on the stove, which served me well for a few years but was frustrating and part of the reason for my brewing holiday. I've taken the plunge and bought a coopers kit to get things moving again. I said I wouldn't do kits again but I have a kilo of spraymalt getting near its use by date and I want to get a brew on ASAP now I've got the bug again.

Re: I am terrified
There's no shame in brewing-up some quick-and-dirty extract beers, especially with so much else going on. Good luck on your brewery build, that sounds like a really fun project. Congratulations on the better-half-seal-of-approval!clootie wrote: ...I've taken the plunge and bought a coopers kit to get things moving again. Thanks, if I get the project off the ground I will post updates, maybe if some use to others thinking of doing similar
Re: I am terrified
Excellent advice I think " keep your kit". I stopped (all grain) brewing 27 years ago when my second child was born and there just wasn't time to brew. When I started again this summer after being made redundant and taking a six month sabbatical all I needed was a new plastic FV, a thermometer and a hydrometer. The neighbours gave brew number one ( St. Dave Line's Crystal Bitter) the seal of approval so I guess I'm back in the game. Just kegged Dave's Davenport Bitter (from MBLTYB) and it tastes fine so fingers crossed. Really enjoying the Forum as I have much to learn about this fascinating hobby of ours. Cheers.
