The recommended amount is 100g/lt which will give you an SG of 1.040.
There is some good info on this page - http://www.maltosefalcons.com/tech/yeas ... -practices

100g into 1lt water gives me an SG of approx. 1.038 which is well within what is recommended.
If you think it is important then use 985ml or whatever Fil's method works out to

whatever works for you.. ive been looking at making slants and plates where the odd couple of gravity points are more crucial..
i just find it easier to weigh out the dme mass and then top up with water in a measuring vessel.. adding the dme to 1l of liquor results in slightly too much wort..

Forgive my ignorance here, but surely when you boil your 1 litre of water/dme mix it will reduce and you will end up with less wort at a higher gravity. Are you saying you should top up to 1 litre with boiled water afterwards?

fwiw boiling(simmering) or sanatising in a pressure cooker i cover the flask or beaker with a foil cap so most evaporation condenses back into the flask.. tho not all granted, but the loss is nominal. but care needs to be taken when the boil/simmer starts, and you can't fill anything too much either.. this looks still but its simmering - the hot break achieved is a bit of a givaway ;)

I only brew All grain. There is nothing wrong with Extract it's just I believe you have a lot more freedom with all grain brewing.
