Tell me about it!

I got the Salifert kit after reading all about it on this forum. If you're familiar with it, you can do a "low resolution" and "normal" test, the latter using twice as much solution. On the normal test it was off the scale. On the low test it came out as 6.61 meq/L... multiply by 50 and you get 330 CaCO3. By rough estimation to get down to (say) 30 I'd need to reduce by 300 and I think that means adding 50ml of CRS which is what I did (actually I think I added 45ml since this was the first try using the stuff since I'd read it was better to aim low than high). I should have retested the treated water then and there but you know what it's like on a brew day...

I've repeated the test several times over the last few weeks and it's the same. I'm in Hertford, served by Three Valleys Water who have recently changed their name to something obscure and forgettable...

Sorry for the thread derail! Feel free to move if need be, though I thought it might get more people interested in buying CRS from Paul if he stocks it :D

pduk wrote:CRS at 500ml would be great for me. I have amazingly hard water here so need industrial sized supplies... I added about 50ml to 30 litres for the last brew and the mash ph was still up at around 5.8...

Thanks for the order that came this morning by the way. It's a pleasure dealing with you!

Paul.
You'd nearly be better off using the cheapo 5L containers of spring water available in all the big supermarkets.
