Ive always wanted to try making a wine but Im put off by the chemistry type equipment you have to buy to produce one. Is there a simple recipe I can start with?

The simplest way to make "wine" for me is to get a demi john, clean it well, fill it up with 3 litres of 100% grape juice then add another litre of water, give it a good shake, add some yeast (of your choice), shake it again, put an air lock/bubbler on top and wait a week or so. Once it's settled siphon into another (clean) demi john being carefull not to shake it and leave it for another couple of weeks. After it's settled again transfer to bottles and store for about a month, chill (if it's white wine), then drink.

This won't get you "proper" wine but if it's a simple recipe your after that should do the trick

Many thanks :)

As an after thought, Ive always wondered how our distance ancesters managed to brew anything without all the aids we have available. Why do we need so many extras when surely yeast, sugar and fruit/vegatable/grain should suffice?

I can heartily recommend the all-inclusive kits from Heron Bay, particularly the whites. I have just started drinking a Sauvignon Blanc that was started back in March using one of their Premium 30 Bottle kits and the outcome is just stunning. In truth you finish-up with nearer 27 bottles as opposed to 30, so with the kits costing about £45 this works out at about £1.65 per bottle. However, the resulting wine is equivalent to the stuff that retails in £8+ range.

For less than £7 in wilkinsons you can get a 1 gallon Definitive kit which has all the basics, all you need is some sugar, a demijohn, an airlock and about 6 weeks patience, i did a chardonnay about 6 months ago and was so impressed im doing sevral diffrent 1gallon kits for xmas too save on cost, tight arse that i am :D
