What ive always done (so far) is brew, Leave in the FV for a week to 10 days to settle. Keg, then add finnings to the keg.
And if i have any left in the FV i bottle the remainder, which gets no finings.
Ive read someones post who brews, leave in the FV to ferment out, then puts on chill a couple days after, and then adds the finings to the FV, again leaves another few days and then Kegs.
Obviously this way would mean if i did it then any bottles i filled would already have had isinglass in to clear it. And prime with half a tea spoon of sugar still.
What works best? Finnings in Keg after the FV, or finings in the FV before kegging?
What are you guys choice of method?
Rob

Re: Finnings
My experience: For the very best polished beer added Aux finings to fv at 8-10 days gently stir and move to a cool place, I don't have the facility to chill. 3-5 days or so latter keg with isinglass.
For very bright beer quickly move fv to cool place at 8-10 days keg 3-5 days later with gelatin.
Following the above without finings will see a very bright beer in 2-4 weeks
There are loads of products and ways to achieve clear beer but those are the ones I have experience with

Re: Finnings
I never used to bother with finings 'till my last beer - the TTL clone. I added a pack of gelatine to the keg (after re-hydrating in fermenting beer first/nuking in the micro/cooling) - I've never seen as clear a beer (mine anyway) in such a short time (around three days). It's drinkable now after only a week in the keg although I doubt the gelatine played that much of a role in it's maturation.
I am convert to the ways of the jelly now though

Re: Finnings
You can use sheets or powder both available from any supermarket in the baking section.kfm wrote:Can i ask what gelatin you use and where you source it from - cheers
Re: Finnings
thanks scooby - have read on an ozzie forum good comments about gelatin and seeing as it is as easy to source as that then I am going to give it a go. been struggling with beer clarity since going over to corny kegs - hopefully prblem solved
