Disturbing the grain bed question

Post by Scotty » Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:16 am

I am hoping to give AG (Summer Lightning Clone) a shot at the back end of May and I have all my equipment ready bar a chiller (which I am going for immersion to save on costs).

For a mash tun, I am hoping to use a Thermos coolbox without modification so I can still use it when not brewing and a grain bag inside a Youngs 25l FV with tap fitted. The plan is to batch sparge at the moment.
However I have read that disturbing the grain bed is a no no, so I was wondering how I would go about this problem. Common sense tells me to transfer the contents of the MT to the barrel and allow to settle, drain of contents then begin batch sparging. Does that sound about right?
