hi guys,

i want to do my first all grain brew today but im missing an ingredient and dont know if it will matter is if just leave it out...

the recipe i want to follow asks for

4.80 kg Marris Otter Pale (2 Row) UK (3.0 SRM) Grain
0.25 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain
0.20 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain
0.15 kg Chocolate Malt (450.0 SRM) Grain

problem is ive no carapils. will it matter if i leave it out?? could it be replaced with something else or can i just add more marris otter???

advice would be appreciated.

I did mine without Carapils and it turned out just fine. My problem is keeping my hands off to it conditions a bit more

Im pretty sure that recipe was formulated with nottingham yeast in mind, since its a quite good at attenuating (fermenting more of the sugars) it tends to leave the beer a bit thinner and dryer than say S04 which doesn't attenuate as well.
I think the carapils in the recipe is to compensate for this, but if you were using S04 you'll probably won't need it.
TBH i think S04 would produce a nicer Hobgob clone than nottingham.

PS If you go down this path don't forget to add an extra corresponding amount of marris otter so that the gravity remains the same.
