rehydrating irish moss

Post by JackA » Fri Sep 18, 2009 1:42 pm

I'm in the middle of a brew (mash has 20 mins to go!) and I remembered reading about rehydrating irish moss for better results. I did a quick google and searched this forum, but I couldn't find a definitive answer: what's the best way of rehydrating irish mosh? I currently have half a teaspoon sitting in half a glass of cold water - this should give it around 2 hours to rehydrate. Should I use more water, warm water, etc?

Cheers :)

I use hot water. I expect cold water will work too but rather more slowly.
Best wishes

I use warm water :)

I give it about half an hour, then pour off the salty water and replace with fresh warm water. Another half an hour and it's ready. I have absolutely no idea if this is proper treatment for Irish Moss, but it seems to work.

Actually, just bunging the dry Irish Moss into the boil also seems to work on the occasions I've forgotten to prepare it.
