Excitement before a brew day?

Post by Deebee » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:49 am

Planning the next brewday is always a buzz for me. I have done 3 solo and the first was with help.

I am now planning the 5th AG brew on wednesday.

its a sneaky one though, the kids are on half term, i am on leave in order to try and decorate the baby room, and at the same time i am hoping to ge the brew done ( meaning that there have been some late nights getting to the stage where i can do no more on the room)

However, i always get a little twitchy before a brew day, the Mrs asked the other day if i had brewed again as the kitchen tap head was not on properly. i told the truth, i had not brewed, but had changed adaptors for the hosepipe for the cooler.

So, Wednesday is the planned day. I am waiting for another 500g pale malt to arrive but have a back up plan in case it does not. The timings are worked out, over and over so i know i should be able to get it all done before she comes home from work, ( the clean up of the boiler etc can be done next day when she is at work again;) )

So i wondered if it was just me, or does anyone else get jittery before a brew?

Secondly , there is no way for me to ensure the brew is entirely secret, i brew in the kitchen and even though i can get tidy and cleaned up there, air out to remove that lovely hops aroma etc, the Fv stands in the wash room where the floor is heated. I thought of doing it in the garage, but night temps are only around the 4 degree mark at best and this would stop the yeast ( wyeast ESB)

So Who fancies coming up with some decent excuses for me to use.

my youngest said that i should deny everything and say the house elves did it whilst i was decorating( good but i don't think it'll swing).

She also siad i should blame the dog and say that she had done it as a thank you for me taking her for walks at 0530 in the moning ( again, a good one but i can't see it going)

The inal one was that i should just play dumb and show no knowledge t all to its existance.....

My feeling is to come clean and say that the malt and hop gods were calling me and i needed to feed the addiction, and besides christmas is coming and brewing now means that i will have no need to brew until January.....

Anyone got any others?

I'd go with the house elves. I always get excited before brewing, I prefer brewing to drinking to be honest. Good luck with this one!

I'm getting very excited about my next brew day, unfortunately it won't be until december - got a hernia and not allowed to do any heavy lifting until its been sewn up. Got everything ready and waiting to go for several brews and really looking forward to getting it all going.

As for your excuse I would go with the house elves, or can't you blame the children?
