first a.g finally finished

Post by urbantreemonkey » Sat Oct 10, 2009 9:47 pm

Hi everyone
Just finished my very first allgrain a TTL from G.W's book.
Everything went quite well but it went on for what seemed like forever! 7hrs :) I did a 19l batch and messed up a little i think to much was left in my mash tun ( a f.v with mash bag in) something like 3+ litres i didnt want to add it after i had finished sparging as it looked really cloudy plus it wouldnt of gone in the boiler (no room), and i lost 5c was down to 60c when sparging started.
I ended up with 17l not 19l and my f.g was 1041 not 1042 like the book states.
Overall it went okay in planned everything out and it went smoothly just need to sort out the mash tun for next time ( i have a cool box just not had time to modify it) :)

That is good for a first go. Don't expect it to be trouble free next time either, that's part of the fun.
Well done, there's no going back now.

Cheers eric, apart from not getting the right amount i thought it went quite smoothly.
Was good to finally get one under my belt, i hope it turns out okay. I just need to sort out my mash tun for next time.
I'm not sure how to work out efficiency i'm guessing it a bit on the low side.
Shaun :)

I'm never brewing in the kitchen again! there was greenish condensation running down the walls which i had to keep wiping down and i even had to mop the ceiling  the wife is luckily understanding, i do most of the cooking in there anyway but next time its going in the shed!

Hahahahaha.........I know the feeling. I did my first few brews in the kitchen before the missus had had enough and banished me to the garage. Best move she ever made - now I have dedicated brew space and the brewery is slowly taking over the garage...especially with another freezer sitting outside waiting for me to clear enough space for it!
