yeast head scum

Post by beer today » Sun Oct 11, 2009 11:53 am

excellent, my yeast did kick in and I have a good foam on my TTL this morning-SO4. However I seem to have very much more scum on the surface this time than last, I dont know why, I have tried to remove as best I can without trying to disturb the head too much. What causes this scum, and how important is it to remove it, I fear I wouldnt be able to get it all out. Whats the general consensus please

A sterilized sieve can easily remove. Some do, some don't. I transfer to secondary for a week so it isn't really a problem as it all gets left in the original FV.
