The Siphon Effect (Mash Tun) Problem?

Post by delta9 » Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:09 pm

Hello, wondering if anyone can shed any light on this. (or know what I'm rambling on about) :)

I was testing out my mashtun yesterday with just water and noticed the siphon action is a bit strange...

After several tests... There were two 'scenarios' of the action of the water draining out (see pic below for comparison)

So why is it sometimes it flows out nice and smooth, but other times it comes out odd like the left pic? The manifold is water-tight and the outside is completly water-tight as well. But it seems to be happening randomly.

Any idea's?

Just a guess, but maybe you're sometimes getting an air bubble trapped somewhere. If this is a mash tun, I wouldn't worry about it. You don't want that rate of run-off when sparging.

Suppose it dont really matter then, and as you say it won't be running that fast anyways. :bonk

Cheers pal
