Bottle Storage

Post by Big G » Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:57 am

Hi

Have recently bottled up 2 brews into Magners bottles, they have been stored now for around 10 days in my dark wardrobe at about 18deg.

Question is "Is it neccessary to now relocate to a colder spot such as my garage or just keep them where they are and reasons for either?"

Thanks as always

Big G

once they've been in the warm for a couple of weeks, I move my bottles into the garage, this is much cooler and encourages any yeast to drop out of the beer, and the beer will start to mature. It'll also slow down/stop secondary fermentation so when you open them you won't get a gusher, or a really dry beer which has had all the sweetness fermented out of it.

My bottles always stay in the house, closer to hand when they are needed! I have before out some in a proper cellar for storage where they stayed for up to a year and the beer was exellent.

After priming my bottles ( Also magners / Bulmers dark glass ) I leave them in the house somewhere warm ( NOT the airing cupboard ) so a bit more fermenting is encouraged. I then put them in boxes and store them in my garage where its about 13 - 16C. After a couple of months I have had some superb beer. Although don't be impatient to get your hands on the little beggers. I have drunk some bottles thinking I had ballsed a batch up, but having left them for the correct amount of time they are just fine.

Why not? I've just bottled up a batch and they're...IN THE AIRING CUPBOARD!!! Only about 22 degrees in there. Should I move them?

I always do one week warmer, two weeks cold. Worked well so far.
