I am now the proud owner of BYOBRA edition 3.
Apart from finding it very good reading and seeing a fair amount of beers that i recognise i have a few questions.
I did send a pm to graham but understand that he is dreadfuly busy and thought i might just as wellpost it here too.
In several of the recipies everythin is clear. then it will say " 10 minutes hops"
Some hops and then an amount.
it does not say which hops.
Do we just use whatever we want or should we stick to one of the other hops that are already listed in the schedule?
Usually i boil for 60 so i imagine that in order to get the correct IBU i just adjust the hop levels accordingly?
I have head a lot about the TTL.... the description looks great... Eitherthat one or the wadsworth, or the fullers, or the hop back mild...... or or or ...
Recipies in GW edition 3
Re: Recipies in GW edition 3
Have you got an example of that? All the recipes I have checked say "Last 10 minutes of boil", followed by the name of the hop and amount.Deebee wrote: In several of the recipies everythin is clear. then it will say " 10 minutes hops"

Re: Recipies in GW edition 3
I seem to remember that for "some hops" read "Goldings". Hopefully someone with a few more brain cells will pick up on this and confirm or put right.
Re: Recipies in GW edition 3
I too remember reading that the 'some hops' should read East Kent goldings
I can only remember doing so as I wrote it on the inside cover of my book

Graham,
Thanks for that link. I have now used it to amend my copy in pencil.
Have started working my way through the book and have so far brewed Bass,Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Donnington SBA,Hop Back Summer Lightning, JW Lees Bitter, Jennings Cocker Hoop, Moorhouse's Pendle Witches' Brew and Timothy Taylor Landlord. Have enjoyed all of them, apart from the Witches' Brew, which is still maturing.
While you are watching this thread, can I ask you for some clarification on Burton Bridge Top Dog Stout on page 194?
The hop amounts do not seem to tally up with the quoted EBU figure of 40. On running it on your Beer Engine at 40 EBU the hop quantity for 25 litres that comes up is 53g. On putting in the 22g that is printed for 25 litres the EBU figure is 17.
Aplologies if this has come up before.
