Transporting full King Kegs

Post by Chunk1234 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:03 pm

Not sure which forum this should go in, but does anyone have any advice about transporting King Kegs?

I've just kegged about 3 gallons into my bottom tap keg and plan on transporting it by car. I guess there will still be some oxygen in the top of the keg and this could get mixed in and around the beer during transport. For this reason I was thinking about adding some CO2 and venting off the extra (hopefully venting any O2 as well), before the trip. My only fear is that transporting the keg under full pressure might increase the chance of a leak.

Anyone done anything like this before and have any tips etc?

ive done this.

put it in the passenger footwell and bring the seat as far forward as possible so it holds it in. You could either put cussions around it keep it wedges in there. that will kepp it upright and still.

How soon will the beer be consumed?
A bit of air in there might not be a problem if you drink it quickly enough.

I've transported half full king keg. I put some extra CO2 in the keg and wedged it in the boot. No leaks, but one problem I had was that the beer had a green apples taste to it when we arrived at the destination. This subsided over a few days, and was back to normal after about 4 days. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just for information, I added some CO2, vented the excess then wedged the keg on the back seat ... worked a treat. Beer tastes the same as before transport.

Didn't get any green apple tastes, but I did let it settle for 2 days at the destination before trying (so that might have made the difference).
