Finings

Post by ade1865 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:05 am

Hi guys, I have a very cloudy beer, think 'soup', in barrel atm. I don't know what happened, tho the brwe seemed to undergo a secondary yeast head in the FV. Basically initial yeast head formed and subsided over a couple of days. I left it to finish off, and a couple of weeks later went back to find that there was a new yeast head as big as the first. gravity is down to 1008. So I'm wondering if theres been an infection of some kind?

Anyway, I'm going to put finings in the barrel, to see if this will clear it. How do i do this?

I often add beerbrite to my keg's just follow the instructions you can get it from any good homebrew shop.

Stir them in cool water under low heat. Stir until dissolved, add to keg.

I have bought Harris Filters 2-stage beer finings, cos it was all the local HBS had.

http://www.harrisfilters.com/finings.htm

It says on the instructions to add pt1 before barreling, and pt2 th day after, and leave 6hrs before barelling. Beer is already in the keg. think I can still safely use this?
