Hi everyone i have a question about the colour of ales.I would like to know how to calculate the colour of my ales before i brew them.I have learned how to calculate E.B.U's mash ratio ect so if i could learn how to calculate the colour that would be another bit of jigsaw fitted into the puzzle of craft brewing. :D

Try this http://www.picobrewery.com/askarchive/color.html

There are many others on the web too, just try your favourite search engine (remember the Americans spell colour differently so try both spellings)

The trick is knowing the colour contribution of each malt you include in your recipe. Sometimes it's printed on the packaging, other times you'll have to use the generic levels for each malt. This is a good place to look http://www.byo.com/resources/grains

Most people use brewing software or some spreadsheet to calculate colour, bitterness etc.
