AARRGGHHH! forgot to vorlaugh!
AARRGGHHH! forgot to vorlaugh!
Is this a big problem? this is my first AG- GW's Old Speckled Hen.
Valentine arm is dribbling away into the boiler as i type...vids on youtube by shortly!
had a few probs with the rims pump, it kept varying its output so the PID didnt have much control on the ricirc temp...i discovered that instead of restricting the pumps output its better to restrict its input. I am thinking that a diaphram pump would be better suited rather than a cintrifugal one.
also discovered that i do need a separate RIMs manifold, the hole-size restricted sparge manifold is not up to both jobs....however i have some ideas on this...will sleep on it!

What's wrong with an ordinary laugh?
Best wishes

No, brewing is a very robust process. You can't really go wrong making wort.
The purpose of vorlaufing is to make sure theres no chunks of grain in the copper, if a few make it in, it's not the end of the world.

It does get easier with experience. Brewed yeaterday while looking after a flu hit wife and spending an hour going to tescos while mashing.EccentricDyslexic wrote:Fanks M, Cooler to go on in 5 mins.....cor this brewing lark is busy!

Vorlauf is just the German expression for recirculating wort. There's no particular reason to use it in English as far as I can see.
Anyway, Mysterio is right, it doesn't matter too much.

Well got it finished but only managed 18litres instaed of the 21litres i wanted. OG is 1054 instead of 1050, can i add some water to up the volume a bit? its in the FV now foaming away!

Oh ok...didnt think it would be that simple! so i will not loose to much gravity? Is there a calc to work it out?

Re: AARRGGHHH! forgot to vorlaugh!
You can either aim to get the desired gravity (in which case add 1.44 lts) or go for the full volume by adding 3 ltrs which should give you a gravity of aound 1046 - 1047.
Look at the dilution calculator here
