Ready for corny?

Post by davidmpye » Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:04 pm

Hi guys,

My first AG brew is a London Pride clone, pitched 13th Jan, into secondary bucket on the 17th.

Drawn a sample today and it is crystal clear (although I've not fined it).

Is it ready for transfer to my corny, or should I wait a bit longer? I suspect I am always a bit too impatient to get these things moving on!

Also, as it seems clear, is it still worth fining it before corny'ing (my dip tube is full length)?

Cheers,

David

I dont even bother with secondary, sometimes I've racked to the cornie as soon as fermentation is over (around 4 days). The yeast will settle eventually and you will get a pint of two of gunge, but thats it. If its clear already theres no need to fine. I normally give a week in FV, rack to cornie with gelatine, drink it crystal clear in the next few days :D

Quick question - gelatine IN corny or in secondary?

I do it in cornie, but you can do it in either! By keeping it in buckets for a month IMO, you're just tieing up more buckets that could have fresh beer fermenting in them :=P
