Cant find wheat flakes (flaked wheat)

Post by ChrisG » Fri Jul 02, 2010 8:34 am

Would like to make a Wit soon but really having problems finding this ingredient.

I can get torrified from Paul and Barley Bottom but dont really want to spend too much. Is there not anything else i can get from the super market?

I use Corn Flakes instead of Flaked Maize and it so far has produced great results in my lagers, but what about wheat flakes?

Any help would be appreciated! ;)

H&G are the only online retailer i know that do it. You'd need to be ordering other stuff to make it worth the postage though.

It does seem to be the "forgotten grain" with retailers. They may stock Outer Mongolian wild roasted spelt, but they still don't stock flaked wheat.

Bung a few blocks of Weetabix in, "it'll be reyt",as they say around these parts :D ! Don't know to be honest, and I ain't got a box to check ingredients, but that's what springs immediately to mind.

Try a healthfood or wholefood store? The wholefood co-operative in Lancaster sells flaked barley, wheat and rye as well as Samuel Smiths beer.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer not to use animal feed in my beer...

I think I'd give it a go at that price if I had a load of Wits to brew or something. Technically its going to do the job but has a different classification.
There seem to be a few animal feed shops local to me :)
