Copper to FV...Pump or gravity?

Post by EccentricDyslexic » Sat Jul 03, 2010 2:53 pm

Hi chaps,

I've been pumping my cooled boiled wort from my boiler to the FV but I think i may be getting infections #-o not sure though..it could be just green beer...time will tell. Anyway, i have been racking my brains on how to move the wort into the FV when the boiler is at floor hight, as I'd like to try to eliminate the pump and assoiated piping from the equasion and hopeful reduce the possibility of future infections. I dont want to be lugging the boiler on to a higher surface, so have come up with some weird and wonderfull ways in which to raise the boiler so i can get a gravity flow into the FV. I could use a block and tackle or an electric winch i suppose. ANy other ideas?

I circulate boiling wort to sanitise the pump and tube turning the pump on when I place the IC in the kettle. The same return is used for circulating the wort in the tun and filling the fermenter so it does 3 jobs. Using silicon tube means I hook it over the tun, kettle or fermenter

I boil on a chair that is high enough to get the FV underneath.

The fall from height gives great oxygenation although i have to work out a wa to stop the foam escaping from the fv before run off is finished.... i lost a lot of wort last time out due to losing the siphon effect when i turned the valve off to stop foam running over the floor.
