How much alcohol will 100g of sugar produce

Post by andy-10 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 3:11 pm

(Not really a grain question, but I'm sure someone here must know about this.)

If I were to put 100g of pure white sugar into 1 lt of water, with some alcohol-resistant yeast (eg Champagne yeast), how many mililitres of pure alcohol would be produced when all of the sugar had been converted ?

Is there a table somewhere which displays this ?

Thanks.

Hmmm...I think sugar is 380 litre degrees per kg, it's fully fermentable so 38 x 0.130 = 4.94% ABV

This is based on the HMRC calculations for beer: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/beerpolm ... l12030.htm

It'll make ethanol, but only the kind a rubby dubby would attempt to consume.

Isn't there a website somewhere that helps people make prison wine or moonshine? That'd be the place to look IMO.

We use sugar as an addition to our beer and cider, but that's about it.

According to Beer Engine It would be 6.1%, so 61ml of pure ethanol.

If you're looking for something to clean your windows, you want Turbo Yeast. It will take 320g of sugar per litre up to 20% abv in 5 days. Disco sh*t.

From there you could decide to distill it to ~40% and call it rum, but that would be very naughty indeed.

Thanks all. I made it 62.5 ml, after some research.

(I'm not brewing purely with sugar, but I plan to use some added sugar to increase the strength of my brew.)

Hi,

Glad to see you got the answer you were looking for....

Can't beat grain and hops to make beer or failing that a decent beer kit made with Dried malt extract :)

I don't know what it means in Vancouver but it means fish bait where I come from.... I'm pretty sure fish bait don't drink hooch or anything for that matter..... ?
:D
