Hi Guys
Could someone help me workout how much brewing sugar i will need for a 3 gallon batch(imperial) of Belgian witbier(hoegaarden clone)? f.g 1.010. It's my first brew and i really don't want to get it wrong and end up with exploding bottles.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Priming-how much sugar do i need . . .
When I first started bottling, I used to just put in half a teaspoon in each bottle. Did the job for me!

Here's a calculator, works well with a bottling bucket.
Much handier than putting sugar into 40 bottles!

Wits are meant to be more highly carbonated.
I use 130g of dex for a 23l batch.

(reposted from an earlier topic)
.5 teaspoon (recommended amount per 500ml) is about 1.45g. That means that 50 x 500ml x 1.45g = 72g (for 25 ltrs). This seems a little short to me. I use BeerSmith to work through all my calculations and it seems to arrive at approximately 130g per 25ltr brew. So there you go - somewhere between 72 and 130g should do it. If it were me I'd split the difference and go for somewhere around 100g.
I think converting volume to weight (especially with sugar) is far from an exact science. One report I checked listed a teaspoon of sugar (as teaspoons of different things will weigh different amounts) as 4.2g - therefore .5 would be 2.1g...

Re: Priming-how much sugar do i need . . .
For my AG#1 I went with 3.5g per Ltr, and it's way over primed. Having said that, I suspect that it started fermenting again once bottled (as opposed to conditioning that is). I'd got stable readings before bottling, but they were higher than I'd hoped/expected at 1014-1016, so that could be the issue. I'd decided to go with 2.5g per Ltr for AG#2, but they'll not be ready until this weekend. If I remember and the threads still live, I post how it came out.
Re: Priming-how much sugar do i need . . .
In the end I end went for 100g for just 4 gallons. To be honest it's my first batch so I won't be too down-hearted if it doesn't end up as i'd expected. It's a learning curve I suppose.
Thanks all.
