Forgot To Boil Sugar When Adding At The Start

Post by y2krog2000 » Mon Aug 02, 2010 8:58 pm

Hello all, I'm new to homebrewing (second batch) and have just started a coopers mexican cerveza (first 1 can job) and added 1kg of light spraymalt instead of sugar and just after I made it I read that it would be very weak using spraymalt alone so I added 200gm of brewing sugar after I added the spraymalt the correct way, the thing is that I forgot to mix the brewing sugar with water and boil. I am wondering if I have definatly destroyed the brew by adding the sugar on its own or should it be ok, it was a new packet of sugar and does anyone think that 200gm is enough to bring it up to around 5% or should I add more.

Any help appreciated

Seem to have posted this in the grain brewing section, such a noob mistake

It'll almost certainly be fine. People drop unsanitary things in their beer all the time and get away with it. Read this thread and take heart: Naich's manky pallet wood escapade.

Well if that story is anything to go by I should be ok, fingers crossed.

Thanks

Sugar is usually pretty safe as things go - as long as it was dry. If it was from a sealed packet you have almost nothing to worry about.
