alkalinity in yorkshire water

Hi does anybody know what the amount of CaC03 (Alkalinity) is in yorkshire
i have the calcium at 126
have asked waterboard and they say that they will get back to me just thought i'd ask if anybody already knows

Hi Adam,

I'm not too far away from you - my calcium is 90ppm.
I'd really suggest that you buy a Salfert alkalinty test kit as I can get quite a variable alkalinity in my water.
Very cheap, easy and quick test :)

keighley area is about 36ppm, or GW thinks that Murphy & Son dilute all their samples (even if they don't have to) so its actually not quite right... though its going to make sod all difference really (its not made any difference to my Mash pH whether I use water treatment or not).

Nah then yoof!. wi' it bein' yarkshire tha'rl 'ave better alkilinity in gods own than almost anywear on't planet. :wink:

I'm in Leeds and I've never tested/treated my water, either - apart from Campden tablets, of course. Not had any problems so far - but might start adding a little gypsum or something next year purely for experimentation. But if it adds nothing then there's no point.
