Old hops - Opinions

Post by JammyBStard » Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:15 pm

I've had a bag of Magnum open inside a sealed ice cream tub in the garage for about a year. they were suposedly originally 15% AA.

Throw them or just use more?

Beer Smith reckons on 15% loss in AA over 6 months for Magnum, so on that basis I would reckon they still have 10/11% AA left, although that will depend on the temp they were stored at, warmer will mean they lose AA quicker.

Do they still smell hoppy?
If they smell cheesey either throw them away or use them in a lambic.
I'm just here for the beer.
