My price per pint just went through the floor
Just ordered my first big amount of all grain ingredients, based on a standard brew of 3kg pale malt, 100g hops, 500g of speciality grains and packet of yeast I'll be brewing at 16.5p a pint!!! Woohooo, sorry just had to tell people who understand

Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
It's good isn't it?
The only thing that worries me is being able to get through larger quantities of ingredients before they start going stale. I only get to brew up every 5 weeks on average, so I'm having to produce some fairly pokey beers to use up the stock. That's my excuse anyway

Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
I'm brewing normally every 2 weeks at tho mo, but I've got a vacuum packer so I may split my grains out and pack them up into batches should keep them fresher that way I hope.....

Hi fatnurse
Yeah a lot better value than kits.
Grain will keep fresh for months if kept dry. I keep mine in plastic bags inside the sack inside an ols fermenting bucket with the lid firmly on. I've had grain keep for over 6 months with no problem.
I dont think you need to vac pac it.

I have a bag sealer and re-seal the grain bags after opening. I have used grains over 6 months old without any issues to be honest. I know it's not ideal but when you have a kilo of black malt and only use a tiny amount in a batch, it can't be avoided.
Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
I used crush grains I kept in my garage in the original sack for close to a year and it made one of my best beers to date

Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
Sweet!
The packer seals only as well, so I guess i'll just use that......just waiting for my shipment now.....its in transit, COME ON!

Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
I had 7 brews (40 pints each or slightly more) out of a £60 order delivered. I was left with 2.5kg of grain and about 400grams of hops. All strong beers too! Inflation, what inflation

Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
Funny I don`t even think of the price these days, I love my beer and I love brewing, even if there was no major saving I would still carry on.
Re: My price per pint just went through the floor
Fair dues Dennis...however I've been brewing for about 3 months.....so I've gone from paying £5+ for 4 beers to 66p!
Though my reasons for starting were not to save money.....it certainly helps hehe

I've been AG brewing for over twenty years now and I still get exited when a big, beautiful sack of malt lands on the doorstep! I've even been known to give the sack a little cuddle!fatnurse wrote:Wooooohooooo! my shipment arrived today, man Im so excited to get brewing! all kinds of new grains and hops ive not tried brewing with yet! fun fun fun!

If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!
