Fruit Puree

I'm tempted to have a go at a fruit beer using Jamil's book "Brewing Classic styles". Specifically, I fancy doing a cherry beer (kriek). In the recipes he talks about using fruit puree. Has anyone managed to find anything suitable in the UK?

I've looked at tinned fruit and frozen fruit in Morrissons and they are obvious options. I suppose another option would be fruit concentrate or similar. Has anyone had any luch using any of these? Unfortunately I don't have acces to fresh fruit on the scale needed.

Can't help but I would be interested to hear any solutions to this as well. Like you I would be tempted to get tinned fruit from the supermarket, rinse off the syrup and blend it to a puree and add to secondary.

I've been looking at frozen cherries as an option, the beer is way down my list of 'beers to brew' so haven't got very far investigating yet.

Used a raspberry concentrate a while back i bought off a online brew shop to make fruit beer. It said enough for a 5 gallon brew but flavour was very subtle indeed.
I wouldn't really recommend it unless maybe added along with fruit to bulk flavour out, plus its fairly expensive.
Maybe fruit juice would be best option, one with no additives. Not sure if you can get black, sour cherry fruit juice.
Buying enough fruit to make a beer can be pretty expensive. Your talking 1 to 4 lbs per gallon accoring to Mosher's Radical brews.
Have you seen the price of cherries in the supermarket?
Frozen or tinned are cheaper but it'll still be an exspensive brew.

I did use frozen raspberries once and I didn't like the results, however it might have been my recipe formulation. I followed Moshers quantities. I also think I could have got higher quality raspberries. Not a very useful post I know :D

One thing I would recommend is to brew a recipe with a LOT of body and some residual sweetness. The acidity and sugar in the raspberries will cut through it. If it's a thin beer it will seem MUCH thinner (this was my mistake)
