Hi all
after a fairly successful first brew did second today, main differences were I heated strike water to 80c then let it stand in mash tun to warm it up, this seemed to work. I also increased my initial lliquor volume to 36 ltrs, which has turned out just about spot on 23ltrs final vol. also used my wort chiller (10 mtetres 8mm microbore) for first time, from near boiling to 20c in 35 mins.
anyway summer lightning with slight variation( on account of only having 50 gm challenger, so substituted 11 gm goldings to match the recipe ebu)otherwise as jimbos recipe database, going well. I'd go into more detail, pics etc, but I,m trying to cure this head cold with coopers stout and its having the desired effect.
cheers
ps 6hrs from start to pitching yeast, ok?

Sounds like it all went pretty well then! Haven't managed to get my brew day under 6 hours - although I do seem to spend a good couple of hours setting everything up and messing around with water treatment before I even get the mash on

A good tip to shorten the brew time is to prepare as much as you can the night before. I treat water, weigh grains and generally get every thing in place so when I wake up I can switch on the HLT and the water is heating up while I eat breakfast.

The more you do the better you get, a good excuse to brew more beers.
