Carbonation Tablets

Post by PieOPah » Wed Apr 18, 2007 11:14 am

I have just ordered some carbonation tablets from Hop & Grape. Has anybody used these before?

From what I understand, you just use 1 tablet per bottle. I am hoping that they dissolve really easily as I want this to be hassle free (if they don't dissolve I could have used glucose like I normally do!

While I will be using the first packet for an entire batch of beer, the second pack will be used for when I am kegging - 4 pints of which will be bottled. Will just make things easier (I hope!)

Hi PoP,

I certainly can't speak from experience but I saw these used on a Basic Brewing video podcast.
It doesn't really answer your question, but it's a jolly good watch!

Dave.

I might get away with them if I use my Grolsch bottles then as they are about 450ml (iirc). 1 tablet should be sufficient for them :)

Just watched the video blog where they use the tablets. I also watched the next one where they open them.

They accidentally used 2 drops in one of the bottles and this didn't seem to cause too much of a problem, just slightly overcarbed, but no gusher or explosion.

I think that I will be happy with just the one tablet per bottle :)

I can report that they provide just the right amount of carbonation for ale in a 500ml bottle, as tested tonight with Quafferish extract ale I made a while ago :flip:
